UKRAINE, US FULLY PREPARED FOR BUSH VISIT, CHALYI SAYS
The Ukrainian and US parties are fully prepared for the March 31 - April 1 state visit of US President George Bush to Ukraine, Deputy Head of the President's Secretariat Oleksandr Chalyi told a news briefing. In his words, this visit is going to become a landmark event. "It is expected that the Unites States will render support to Ukraine on its plea for joining the NATO Membership Action Plan. Apart from this, Ukrainian - US relations will be taken to a much higher and qualitative level of cooperation," the deputy head of the secretariat said.

UKRAINE'S MAP ACCESSION POSES NO THREAT TO UKRAINE, OTHER COUNTRIES - PRESIDENT
President Viktor Yushchenko stresses Ukraine has no intentions to deploy military basis in case of its joining NATO. This was disclosed by President Yushchenko in Kyiv at the All-Ukraine Intelligentsia Forum. "Someone disseminate a myth that there will be a NATO military base in Sevastopol. There will be no base. Read the Constitution, which clearly says that there will be no military bases of any country or bloc in Ukraine," the President emphasized.

JANUARY-FEBRUARY INFLATION RATE DEMANDS NEW BUDGET 2008 FROM GOVERNMENT - PRESIDENT
President Viktor Yushchenko believes the January-February inflation rate obliges the Government to form a new budget 2008, President Yushchenko told an interview with the National Channel One TV program "Point of View", UKRINFORM reports citing the presidential press-service. "Inflation is a factor we will always be facing. The scale of the inflation what is important here. Speaking about January-February rates, these rates oblige the Government to form a new budget 2008 and to protect groups of people which were affected by the inflation," the President stressed.

In his exclusive interview for UKRINFORM, President Viktor Yushchenko spoke about the most topical issues for Ukraine, both in the foreign and home policy where the main challenge now is sharp inflation development. Analyzing antirecession measures proposed by Yulia Tymoshenko's Government, President Yushchenko stressed that in 2008 Ukraine had quite difficult inflation situation. The rise in prices for foodstuffs in January totaled 4.4 percent, while there were some 8.3 percent over the two month. "To my mind, this is the most severe inflation process Ukraine has been facing nowadays, especially in the product component of retail prices," he noted saying the inflation monetary factor is minimal.

The question whom Ukraine is going to integrate with - Russia or the European Union - is inopportune, as Ukraine is a big and powerful state that may build harmonious relations both with its neighbor countries and the EU, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko says. NAFTOGAZ, GAZPROM REACH AGREEMENT ON CRISIS SETTLEMENT
Following telephone talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Viktor Yushchenko of Ukraine, Russia's Gazprom natural gas monopoly president Aleksey Miller and national joint stock company Naftogaz of Ukraine board chairman Oleh Dubyna reached agreement on settlement of the crisis situation in bilateral gas relations. Gas supply issues will be regulated, and talks on other questions of cooperation in gas industry will continue, reads a joint statement of Gazprom and Naftogaz of Ukraine.

PRESIDENT MAY BEGIN CONSULTATIONS ON VR'S DISSOLUTION - BOHATYRIOVA
President Viktor Yushchenko may begin consultations with political forces as regards the possibility of the parliament's dissolution unless it resumes work in the nearest few days, according to the statement signed by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rayisa Bohatyriova. Ms. Bohatyriova reminded that the head of state has already expressed concern about the parliament's inefficiency and its inability to find a way out of the current crisis.

GAZPROM REDUCES GAS SUPPLIES TO UKRAINE
Russian gas monopoly Gazprom has informed the affiliate company of Naftogaz of Ukraine, Ukrtransgaz, about reducing gas supplies to Ukraine by 30 million cu. m. per day, Naftogaz press service reported. The relevant telegram from Gazprom arrived at 9.34 a.m. Kyiv time. Naftogaz assured that the move will not affect Ukrainian consumers. Gazrom earlier stated it will cut gas supplies to Ukraine by 25 percent as of 9 a.m. March 3 unless Ukraine's debt is settled. On February 29 Gazprom's official representative Sergei Kupriyanov said that Ukraine has not fully settled the debt for the gas supplied in 2007.
