Russian gas monopoly Gazprom has informed the affiliate company of Naftogaz of Ukraine, Ukrtransgaz, about reducing gas supplies to Ukraine by 30 million cu.
m. per day, Naftogaz press service reported. The relevant telegram from Gazprom arrived at 9.34 a.m. Kyiv time.
Naftogaz assured that the move will not affect Ukrainian consumers.
Gazrom earlier stated it will cut gas supplies to Ukraine by 25 percent as of 9 a.m. March 3 unless Ukraine's debt is settled. On February 29 Gazprom's official representative Sergei Kupriyanov said that Ukraine has not fully settled the debt for the gas supplied in 2007.
Last week Naftogaz said it has fully paid off last year's debt to UkrGaz-Energo, which sells imported gas in Ukraine, a statement which RosUkrEnergo, the monopoly exporter of gas to Ukraine, denied.
