PRESIDENT YUSHCHENKO OFFERS TO DEFINE AND ENSURE FULL-FLEDGED STATUS OF UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT IN REDRAFTED CONSTITUTION

A fundamental law of Ukraine should ensure a full-fledged status of Head of the State, President Viktor Yushchenko told the first meeting of the National Constitutional Council, UKRINFORM correspondents reported.
"It is of great importance to ensure a full-fledged status of a nationwide elected President, as a guarantor of national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Yushchenko stressed.
At the same time, President Yushchenko stressed on the need to define a key role of the President in foreign policy, as well as his/her powers in relations with the Parliament, Government and other public authorities," he said.
Yushchenko also said a redrafted Constitution should keep the current status of the Cabinet of Ministers as supreme executive body, but it is necessary to create a mechanism of the Cabinet accountability for its work.
